Real advantages that matter in your accounting career
The PEP program gives you a clear roadmap. You’ll know exactly what to study, when to study it, and why it matters. No guessing games.
CPA designation opens doors. Senior roles, management positions, and higher earning potential become realistic. Employers recognize the credential.
You’ll join a network of qualified accountants across Canada. The designation carries real weight in financial services, government, and corporate sectors.
CPD requirements keep you current with accounting standards and regulations. Your knowledge stays relevant throughout your career — that’s genuinely valuable.
CPA professionals earn significantly more than non-designated accountants. The investment in designation pays off over your career span.
Access to networking events, mentorship, and peer connections. You’re not studying alone — you’re joining a professional community.
What you need to know about the designation journey
Most candidates finish the Professional Education Program within this timeframe, depending on their starting point and study pace.
Financial Reporting, Management Accounting, Audit & Assurance, and Taxation form the foundation of the program.
After designation, you’ll complete professional development requirements to maintain your credential and stay current.
Day 1 focuses on core competencies, Day 2 covers advanced application, and Day 3 involves case analysis and decision-making.
Real perspectives on the designation journey
“I wasn’t sure I could balance work and the PEP program, honestly. But the flexible structure let me study on my own schedule. The CFE wasn’t easy — three days of intense case work — but I felt prepared. Now I’m a designated CPA and it’s already opening doors.”
“The core competency modules gave me structure. I’d tried studying on my own before — too overwhelming. With the program’s organization, I actually understood the material instead of just memorizing. The CPD requirements afterward aren’t burdensome either.”
“People ask if the CFE is brutal. It’s challenging — you’re solving real accounting problems under time pressure. But that’s the point. It tests whether you can actually apply knowledge, not just recall facts. I’m glad I went through it.”
Four clear stages from start to designation
You’ll need your accounting degree and meet educational prerequisites. Most people start here after finishing their undergraduate studies. The application process takes a few weeks.
Study the four core competency areas through structured modules. You’ll have about 18-24 months to complete this, with flexibility to fit your work schedule. Hands-on case studies prepare you for real scenarios.
The final test happens over three days. You’ll work through case studies that require applying everything you’ve learned. Most candidates pass on their first attempt if they’ve prepared properly.
You’re officially a CPA. Now you’ll complete continuing professional development — 120 hours annually — to maintain your designation and stay current with accounting standards and regulations.
